Fill Your Tea Cup
Babies in Bloom Resource Guide: We Spill the Tea on the Best…Teas!
Fall is right around the corner, and so is the soothing warmth of tea in the morning.
Picture it: the crisp air, the quiet calm at sunrise, smelling tea leaves as they steep in your gifted tea cup. Sounds heavenly?
Okay, maybe your mornings DO NOT look like this at all. Instead, they’re filled with scrambling to breastfeed one baby, clothe another before school, and racing against the clock with your travel mug on your way to work.
In any scenario, tea can serve as a great resource for your very important mom tool belt.
Incorporating tea into your self care routine can be a game changer. Our Babies in Bloom Guide below shares not only what our tea offerings can do for you, but also how they work!
Got Cramps or PMS? Meet Red Raspberry Leaf and Cinnamon.
Our boutique features a handful of teas that can temper your monthly woes, and keep you feeling friendly. Earth Mama Organics to the rescue!
Raspberry Leaf Tea has so many benefits to women that its often referred to as the woman’s tea. One reason has to do with a part of the raspberry tea leaf called fragarine, a plant compound that tones and tightens pelvic muscles, which may reduce the menstrual cramping caused by the spasms of these muscles.
Additionally, red raspberry leaves alone contain 18% of our daily recommended intake for iron. Getting enough iron helps prevent anemia, which is often a condition present for women with heavy menstrual cycles.
Earth Mama’s Periodic Tea is created specifically for PMS, periods and postpartum. This revitalizing herb and cinnamon tea is caffeine free.
You’re likely well aware of the common spice cinnamon, but did you know it has a ton of proven health benefits to its name?
For starters, cinnamon is packed with antioxidants. In fact, a recent study compared 26 spices and cinnamon was the clear winner, beating other popular super-foods like garlic and oregano!
Cinnamon is also an anti-inflammatory, reduces blood sugar levels and helps regulate blood pressure.
It has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties as well, and may reduce infections and help fight tooth decay and bad breath. Cinnamon can even inhibit the growth of certain bacteria such as Listeria and Salmonella (which can cause more serious concerns during pregnancy).
Got Heartburn? Meet Spearmint and Marshmallow.
We keep Earth Mama’s Heartburn Tea on our shelves for good reason — the pesky and persistent condition creeps up for many during pregnancy! This tea (caffeine free, are you noticing a trend?) helps relieve occasional indigestion. Its soothing, cooling mellow mint flavor boasts a blend of herbs and leaves to include spearmint and marshmallow.
Spearmint is a common mint flavor found in everything from gum to mouthwashes and teas. People turn to spearmint for its link to helping with indigestion, vomiting, nausea, bloating, abdominal pain and gas. The reason for this lies with a compound found in spearmint, which strongly inhibits muscle contractions in the digestive tract.
It’s benefits extend to hormones in women as well, including decreasing male hormones like testosterone and increasing hormones necessary for ovulation.
Early studies also show a possible connection between spearmint and memory improvement.
Spearmint’s less common partner in the Heartburn Tea is marshmallow root. It’s been used as a remedy for thousands of years to treat digestive, respiratory, and skin conditions. Its source of power is due in part to the mucilage it contains.
Marshmallow can also help heal wounds, relieve pain and discomfort caused by anything from a sore throat to an abrasion, and can act as a diuretic.
Got Stress (who doesn’t)? Meet Lemon Balm and Chamomile.
Earth Mama Organics’ Peaceful Mama tea is a caffeine-free citrus chamomile tea to help support anxious mamas-to-be…but that doesn’t mean it can’t help the postpartum mama, or mom of three.
It should come as no surprise that lemon balm is the primary ingredient in the Peaceful Mama tea. Lemon balm is the go-to herb for relaxation and mood improvement.
It’s benefits extend beyond stress-relief, however. Lemon balm might also improve cognitive function, and relieve insomnia, nausea, indigestion, toothaches and headaches.
The benefits of chamomile are plenty. It’s daisy-like flowers are both cute and full of antioxidants. Chamomile is known to help lower risk of heart disease and cancer.
Drinking chamomile will induce sleepiness so it’s best NOT to drink this in the morning (if you have a busy day — if its a rest day, go for it!). Because of this, chamomile is your go-to for combating insomnia and restlessness.
That’s not all…chamomile is a great aide for digestion, skin health, is an immunity booster, and improves bone density!
We all have moments of high stress, and sometimes feel like we operate on constant low stress. Consider this 100% organic Stress Less Tea the little cheerleader we all need in our corner, helping root us on and relax us too.
Got Low Milk Supply? Meet Fenugreek and Ixbut.
We’ve got at least two teas in our boutique that help mamas increase their milk supply, Earth Mama’s Milkmaid Tea and Legendairy Milk’s Tea-Tas.
Earth Mama’s tea features fenugreek as it’s main ingredient. If you’ve indulged in any lactation treats, you should be familiar with this common herb. This is because studies have linked increased milk production with fenugreek.
Fenugreek has a long history of use as an alternative remedy, and is also a common ingredient in Indian food.
Men also can use fenugreek to help boost testosterone production, and some studies link it to increased libido. It also might help suppress appetite and control blood sugar levels.
Legendairy Milk’s lactation support tea features only one ingredient — wildcrafted ixbut leaves. Ixbut is much less commonly known, but is an herb used in Central American by its indigenous people. For centuries, its helped stimulate milk production in both humans and cattle.
Per a Costa Rican study, 86 postpartum women showed a 62% increase in milk production from using ixbut. In subsequent studies among 1,800 women struggling with breastfeeding, 50% indicated they could not nurse at all without ixbut, 35% showed a notable improvement in milk production with ixbut, and 15% showed no benefit.
Got Third Trimester and Labor Woes? Meet Stinging Nettle (you already know Red Raspberry Leaf).
We get a lot of pregnant ladies in our boutique, so we have a tea on our shelves just in time for the end of pregnancy ailments leading up to, and including, labor! Earth Mama’s Third Trimester Tea helps support all the unique needs of late pregnancy.
In addition to red raspberry leaf, a main ingredient to this special tea blend is stinging nettle. This herb packs a punch and has a long history as well. Ancient Egyptians used stinging nettle to treat arthritis and lower back pain (are you now getting why its a helpful tea for labor?).
Stinging nettle is filled with antioxidants and vitamins. It’s shown to help reduce bleeding, improve liver health, and also treat wounds and burns, among many other possible benefits.
You can’t really go wrong choosing from our curated inventory of teas! However, now that you have all this knowledge, you know just what to look for the next time an ailment interferes with your morning routine!
